Vegas Nat'l Wildlife Refuge

This is a poor refuge for Mourning Doves as it has a regular hunting season for them. It tried to do the same for elk by importing a couple of bulls from I don't know where but some spoil sport shot them and left them for the coyotes before the HUNT could be finalized. Since then the manager at the time has been transferred but the Mourning Dove hunt goes on.

Feb/17/2018

I was walking along when I heard drumming from the Box Elder right ahead, I carefully advanced with camera ready and was rewarded with nice shots of a Downy drumming just a few feet above. When the bird received no reply he flew on and so did I, but just as I past the tree I heard to me identical drumming from the other side of the tree. It was a Ladderback this time. I think he must have come to the drumming he heard. Last year about two hundred yards up-stream was the first time I saw a Ladderback here and it might be this one.
